The Free App that stops you comparing yourself to other people -

You know the score.

Your email inbox, Facebook groups and Instagram feeds are jam packed full of success stories, photos of freedom, 6 figure launches and women with 6 kids who ‘have it all’.

There are times when envy will sneak under your skin and stay there for a day (or week) or two. I often find this doesn’t come from one person’s story, but more a collection of stories that I’ve saturated my brain in for a bit too long some days. It’s so easy to get caught up in other people’s output and then deem yourself unworthy. But the ever-scroll of blog posts and success stories, whilst mainly written from a place of ‘Look what I did, you can do it too!” can often feel unattainable and dream squashing.

However, things have changed for me in the last 6 months. I’ve had my nose to the grindstone more often working with clients that I am head over heels in love with. I’ve been pouring my all into the projects and switching my focus towards my own goals. Whilst this may be a great breakthrough for me, it doesn’t help you, does it? Well, that’s why I wanted to share the one tool that I used to turn my focus around and keep my envy in check.

Rescue time.

And before you roll your eyes and dismiss this as some kind of affiliate gig (it’s not) or just another time management tool (it’s not), hear me out.

If you haven’t heard of Rescue Time before, it’s a tool that tracks your computer and website usage, presenting you with a chart of productivity and time spent where at the end of the week.
Sounds kind of creepy, but I promise you, it’s the best free thing I’ve ever signed up for.

“What has tracking your usage got to do with comparisonitis?” I hear you ask.

Well, getting my Rescue Time report each week, I can see exactly how much time I spent working on various aspects of my business and when I’ve spent a bit too much time on what other people are putting out into the world.

My Rescue Time report has become my reward for focusing on my own work. I am in competition with myself instead of others. Every week I focus on trying to move that Productivity Pulse up a few notches, reducing the horrendous amount of time I spend in email and achieving a healthy balance of making vs marketing.

This is an example of when I had a few projects wrapping up and a few beginning.  You can see that my design time was down, but my correspondence was way up! This alerted me that next week was going to be heavy in the Design Programs when the projects got rolling.

If you’d like to stop spending so much time bogged down in other peoples websites, courses and Facebook conversations and more time putting your own genius out into the world, I highly recommend you download Rescue Time and start getting into competition with yourself to get more of your own work done. Because only then will you truly make a dollar and make a difference.

How do you remind yourself to get your head out of other peoples success stories and into your own work?

Much love,
